Supademo vs Storylane for a Japanese Product Demo: Choose the Branching Path, Then Test the Copy

An overseas team choosing an interactive-demo tool for Japan is not choosing between two recording apps. It is choosing where the Japanese demo path branches, who can edit it, how analytics and leads leave the platform, and what happens to the finished demo when the plan changes. Supademo and Storylane document different positions on each of those boundaries.
Commercial disclosure. This comparison is research-based and has not been hands-on tested. Japan Legible applied to Supademo's affiliate program on August 13, 2026, and the application remains pending; it has not applied to Storylane and holds no approved commercial relationship with either vendor. The links below remain direct official pages. These facts do not determine the comparison or recommendation. Official pricing pages were checked on August 13, 2026. This guide makes no claim about completion rates, revenue, conversion uplift, Japanese-language support, or legal or data-handling compliance.
Short answer
Supademo is the strongest fit when the team wants self-service interactive demos, conditional branching and variables, tracking links, and analytics at per-creator pricing. Storylane is the strongest fit when the team wants HTML editing, personalization tokens, account reveal, bundled seats, and deal-oriented features on the Growth and Premium plans.
No vendor page proves which tool performs better for a Japanese audience. The decision starts with the operating boundary: which creation workflow and handoff the team will actually maintain, and which Japanese copy-and-font checks it can run before launch.
The decision behind the comparison
The reader question is not "which demo tool is better." It is "which demo workflow can a small Japan-facing team operate end to end?"
A Japan product-demo workflow introduces six operating questions:
- Japanese text and fonts: whether Japanese UI copy, CJK font rendering, line wrapping, and button text stay readable in the demo player.
- Narration and captions: where voiceover, AI voiceover, captions, and subtitle content are edited and whether Japanese text survives those flows.
- Branching and personalization: whether different visitor choices open different paths and whether name, company, or language variables can be injected.
- Analytics and export: which viewer events, lead fields, and CSV or video exports are available on each plan.
- Hosting and data handling: where demos are hosted, how access is controlled, and what data-residency and export options are documented.
- Pricing scale: what a small team pays at 1, 5, and 10 seats and what happens when creators or seats change.
The official pricing pages answer parts of this frame. Japanese support, fonts, narration quality, and data-handling behavior must be verified separately.
Shared ground: what the platforms document
Supademo
Supademo's pricing page, checked on August 13, 2026, documents a Free plan for 1 creator with 5 guided interactive demos, 50 video recordings, unlimited demo views, and unlimited screenshots. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial. With annual billing selected, Scale is shown at $38 per month per creator and Growth at $350 per month for 5 creators. The monthly Scale price is $50. Scale adds branching and variables, tracking links and analytics, End CTAs, custom domains, custom branding, AI voiceovers, closed captions, Translate with AI, and 5 view-only collaborators. Growth adds guided HTML demos, clickable sandbox demos, Route Hub, AI voice cloning, demo versioning, and unlimited view-only collaborators. Enterprise is custom pricing starting at 10 creators and adds SSO and SAML, custom data residency, multiple workspaces, export data, and dedicated support.
The page also states that paid plans are billed per creator and that the free plan is limited to five demos.
Storylane
Storylane's plans page, also checked on August 13, 2026, documents a Free plan with 1 seat and 1 published demo at a time, unlimited demo views, lead capture, basic analytics, Slack integration, and AI voiceovers. Starter is $50 per month for 1 seat with $40 per additional seat, unlimited published demos, AI translations, Storylane MCP, comments, demo chapters, account reveal for 250 visitors per month, custom branding, advanced analytics, and CSV analytics export. HubSpot and Zapier integrations require at least 2 seats; that minimum does not apply to the Starter plan itself. Growth is $625 per month for 5 seats and adds HTML demo editing, AI HTML content editing, personalization tokens, A/B testing, multi-teams, a dedicated CSM, and 10-plus integrations. Premium is $1,500 per month for 10 seats and adds Salesforce integration, SSO, whitelabel demo URL, presenter demos, hubs, deal intelligence, and offline demos. Enterprise is custom.
The page also says viewer volume does not influence pricing.
Decision boundary one: Japanese text and fonts
Neither fetched official page documents a Japanese interface, Japanese font stack, or Japanese line-wrap guarantee. That is an unknown, not a confirmation that either tool can or cannot render Japanese copy well.
The practical test is to build one demo with Japanese UI copy, CJK punctuation, long labels, and button text, then check the player on desktop and mobile. The synthetic fixture at research/fixtures/supademo-vs-storylane-for-a-japanese-product-demo/japanese-ui-copy.yaml records representative sign-in, consent, and completion copy. The fixture is synthetic and does not claim either product rendered it.
Decision boundary two: narration and captions
Supademo's pricing page documents record or upload voiceover, AI voiceovers, and closed captions starting on Scale. Storylane's pricing page documents AI voiceovers on the free plan, AI translations on Starter, and AI video avatar usage across paid plans.
The pages do not document whether Japanese narration, Japanese AI voice output, or Japanese captions are supported. Verify the official documentation for the exact language list before paying. Do not assume an AI voiceover feature is a Japanese voiceover feature.
Decision boundary three: branching and personalization
Supademo documents conditional branching and dynamic variables starting on Scale. Storylane documents personalization tokens and A/B testing starting on Growth, with HTML content changes available at that tier.
For a small team, the useful question is which path set the team will maintain: a first-run demo, a role-specific variant, a localized variant, and a sales-handoff ending. Choose the plan that covers those flows without making the demo editor a full-time job.
Decision boundary four: analytics and export
Supademo documents overview analytics, advanced viewer insights, IP and session data, track and export leads, custom forms, and showcase analytics on paid plans; export as GIF, MP4, and SOP PDF or PNG is documented across plans. Storylane documents basic analytics on free, advanced analytics and CSV export on Starter, and deal intelligence on Premium.
Neither page documents the exact Japanese lead fields, consent records, or export schema needed for a Japan workflow. Confirm the export format and consent fields in the official documentation and in the team's own test account.
Decision boundary five: hosting and data handling
Supademo documents SOC 2 Type 2 across plans, SSO and SAML on Enterprise, custom data retention on Enterprise, and custom data residency on Enterprise. Storylane's pricing page documents SOC2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance in its plan summary and Enterprise-grade security on the Enterprise plan.
Do not interpret SOC 2 or GDPR wording as a Japan-specific data-storage or compliance guarantee. Verify the official security, privacy, DPA, and data-region pages for the specific Japan workflow; this guide does not provide legal or compliance advice.
Decision boundary six: pricing scale
| Vendor | Verified official pricing, August 13, 2026 | Pricing unit | | --- | --- | --- | | Supademo | Free to 1 creator and 5 demos; Scale $38/creator/month and Growth $350/month for 5 creators with annual billing selected; Scale is $50 on monthly billing; Enterprise custom from 10 creators | Per creator, plan features | | Storylane | Free to 1 seat and 1 published demo; Starter $50/month for 1 seat plus $40/seat; Growth $625/month for 5 seats; Premium $1,500/month for 10 seats; Enterprise custom | Per seat, plan features |
Supademo's per-creator price is lower for one builder, while Storylane's Growth plan bundles 5 seats and adds HTML editing. Estimate both at the team's realistic creator count and check whether the features the team needs actually sit in the tier that fits the budget.
Counterargument
The strongest objection is that both free plans are enough to build the first demo, so the tool choice can wait. That is often true for cost. It is not true for operating fit: the first demo is where the team discovers Japanese text rendering, narration, branching, export, and handoff behavior. Build the pilot on the plan the team will actually use, then keep the tool only as long as the workflow holds.
When none of these is the answer
Skip both when the team needs a full interactive product environment rather than a guided demo, when demos must be hosted entirely inside a Japan-controlled infrastructure, or when the content model is not a guided path at all. A screen-recording tool, a full sandbox product, or a video platform may fit better than either demo suite.
Unknowns
This check could not verify Japanese-language interface support, Japanese font rendering, Japanese AI narration or captions, exact lead export schemas, data-region availability beyond the pricing page wording, or hands-on behavior of either platform. Treat all of those as open questions.
Evaluation checklist
- Build one Japanese demo from the synthetic UI-copy fixture and check CJK text, line wrapping, and button labels on desktop and mobile.
- Record or upload Japanese narration and captions; verify the language list and playback in the actual plan.
- Build one branching path with Japanese choices and one personalization variable.
- Export analytics, leads, and the finished demo; confirm the schema and consent fields.
- Estimate cost at 1, 5, and 10 creators or seats, and confirm the feature tier each estimate assumes.
- Verify the vendor's security, privacy, DPA, and data-region pages for the Japan workflow; this guide does not provide compliance advice.
- Name the person who owns demo copy, narration, analytics, and handoff.
Final recommendation
Choose the demo workflow the team can operate, not the feature list in a sales deck. Supademo fits a self-service-first team that wants branching, variables, tracking links, and per-creator pricing. Storylane fits a team that wants HTML editing, personalization tokens, account reveal, and bundled seats on Growth or Premium. Neither official page proves Japanese support or demo outcomes, so run the Japanese copy-and-font pilot before scaling.
