Who we are
Japan Legible (japanlegible.com) is an independent publication and market-entry practice operated by Kaito Yoshizumi, based in Japan.
What we collect
This site has no accounts and sets no advertising cookies. If you email us or subscribe to the newsletter, we receive the information you choose to send—your address and message—and use it only to reply, deliver the newsletter, and work with you. The Japan Brief subscriptions are managed by Beehiiv, which processes your email address and newsletter engagement to deliver and operate the newsletter under its own privacy policy. When the embedded form is loaded, Beehiiv may also receive the page's campaign parameters so a subscription can be attributed to its source. Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes standard server logs (such as IP address and requested pages) to serve and secure the site.
Analytics
We use PostHog in a privacy-minimizing configuration to count limited page and article views, newsletter and service CTA clicks, outbound product and affiliate-link clicks, and visits attributed to Medium, Pinterest, Reddit, or selected AI referral sources. For outbound product clicks, we record the product label and destination host and path, but not URL query strings. We collect campaign labels, article identifiers, CTA positions, and whether a Reddit visit used our profile gateway—not usernames, post text, or form contents. We remove SDK-added URL and device details before sending events and disable IP-based location enrichment. We do not enable automatic page or click capture, persistent analytics storage, user profiles, or session recordings.
